The Decatur Fire Department provides the community with emergency response from fires and medical calls, to technical rescue and hazardous material incidents. The Decatur Fire Department is comprised of 7 fire station protecting roughly 48 square miles. The department has 111 employees that are assigned to the Administrative, Operations, and Fire Prevention divisions. The Operations division is the largest with 104 people divided up between three battalions. Each battalion works 24 hours and then off for 48 hours. Two battalions have 35 people assigned, and one battalion has 34 people assigned to it. Each battalion staffs 6 engine companies, 2 truck companies, and a Battalion Chief vehicle every day. Decatur Fire Department has an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) Class 2 rating.
